Rachel Zoe Style: Bohemian Glamour Designers for Fall and Winter

The stylist's named design references and a fall/winter wardrobe of rich layers, soft knits, statement bags and evening pieces.

Rachel Zoe named Chloé, Stella McCartney, Isabel Marant and Tom Ford at Gucci as boho influences. Shop fall layers, knits, boots, bags and eveningwear.

Rachel Zoe's bohemian glamour begins with a point of view

Rachel Zoe became a defining celebrity stylist of the early 2000s, working with Nicole Richie, Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton while also dressing Keira Knightley, Salma Hayek Pinault, Jennifer Garner and Eva Mendes. In Harper's Bazaar, she says boho was a spirit, not a uniform, and that she was careful to dress each client for her own personality.

She named Phoebe Philo at Chloé as an early catalyst, called Stella McCartney the queen of cool-girl boho chic, and cited Isabel Marant and Tom Ford at Gucci. That last reference is her own shorthand for sexy bohemian glamour, the balance of fluid layers and a little rock-and-roll edge I want from this edit.

Rachel Zoe's style archive turns into a winter wardrobe

Zoe started as a fashion assistant at YM, then moved into styling after Jennifer Garner hired her for an Emmy look. Cameron Diaz, Kate Hudson and Keira Knightley followed, and she launched her own contemporary collection in 2011.

She also built The Zoe Report and starred in The Rachel Zoe Project; her official biography notes two New York Times bestsellers as well. I start with her named references, then widen this fall and winter edit to other designers for wool and shearling layers, substantial knits and eveningwear.

Where I would start with Rachel Zoe's style

Start with a textured outer layer and let it set the mood. Keep the rest relaxed, then choose one strong boot or bag rather than stacking every statement at once. The aim is a look that feels personal, not like a costume.
