Point Taken

Sharp toes, flat soles, no blisters

Pointed toe flats in leather and suede, from black and chocolate slip-ons to slingbacks in nude, burgundy and cream, plus how to wear a pointed flat with jeans, trousers and skirts.

Why the pointed flat is the easy shoe

A pointed toe makes the leg look longer, and a flat sole means you can actually walk to the train.

I split the edit into two shapes: closed flats you slide into, and slingbacks that add a little air around the heel.

Closed pointed toe flats

Black, brown, cognac, burgundy and a bright white pair, mostly in leather and suede with a low scoop or a small buckle.

My fitting room test: walk across the room and listen for the heel slipping. A flat that gapes at the back will rub by lunchtime. What I would skip: a toe so narrow your little toe is squeezed.

Pointed toe slingbacks

Slingbacks in black, nude, camel, cream and burgundy with thin straps, small buckles or a bow detail.

What I check: the strap should sit snug without cutting in, and the shoe should stay on when you step off a curb. What I would skip: a strap that is too stretchy to hold the heel.

How I would wear a pointed flat

With straight leg jeans and a cropped coat, the pointed toe peeks out and fixes the whole outfit. Tights work too, in black or in a color that matches the shoe.
