Brad Goreski Style: Colorful Preppy Tailoring and Fall Layers

A fall wardrobe through Brad Goreski’s preppy, color-forward lens, with patterned sport coats, textured knits, cold-weather outerwear and polished boots.

Brad Goreski's preppy, color-forward style in fall menswear, from tailored sport coats and textured knits to cold-weather outerwear and polished boots.

Brad Goreski's style starts with preppy tailoring and one playful detail

Brad Goreski is a Los Angeles-based stylist, television personality and editor whose clients include Demi Moore, Jenna Dewan, Kaley Cuoco, Sarah Hyland and Rashida Jones. He began as an intern in the New York offices of Vogue and W, became Vogue’s West Coast assistant, worked for Rachel Zoe and later served as Kate Spade New York’s exclusive brand stylist.

For his own wardrobe, he calls his look preppy, nerdy chic. Plaid, bow ties and a great shoe are recurring signatures, so I start with sport coats in tactile wool and classic checks rather than a standard office uniform.

Texture carries the look from tailored jackets into cold weather

GQ records a Thom Browne gray flannel suit and a Gucci mohair sweater with color-blocking among Goreski’s personal favorites. W Magazine also names Thom Browne, Michael Bastian, Tom Ford and Simon Spurr as style icons, and notes the bow tie and glasses he uses as finishing touches.

USC Dornsife reports that his art history degree helped him think about composition and how colors work together. I use that idea in the second half of the edit: one soft knit under a well-chosen coat, then a clean boot to finish.

Where I would start with Brad Goreski's style

Begin with a plaid sport coat and keep the rest of the outfit simple. Add a single lively detail, whether that is texture, a bold tie or a little shine. That balance feels closest to Goreski's playful, tailored approach.
